Why Something Extra?

Something Extra Learning was inspired by my daughter and the belief that every child deserves to be seen for their potential, not limited by expectations. I founded Something Extra Learning to create a welcoming place where learners can receive the extra time, encouragement, creativity, and individualized support they may need to learn, grow, and build confidence.

Our Approach

At Something Extra Learning, we believe learning should never feel one-size-fits-all. We provide personalized and small group educational experiences designed to meet learners where they are while helping them build skills, independence, and confidence. Our environment combines academic support, hands-on learning creativity, encouragement, and opportunities to explore different ways of learning.

Meet the Founder

Something Extra Learning was founded by D’Ante Purnell, a veteran and former combat medic with academic backgrounds in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Biology and Chemistry. Her experiences in healthcare, education, and motherhood shaped her belief that every learner deserves patience, individualized support, and the opportunity to learn in a way that works for them. Inspired by her daughter, D’Ante created Something Extra Learning as a welcoming space where children can build skills, confidence, independence and a genuine love of learning.

Who We Serve

Our children’s programs primarily serve learners ages 3-12, with services ranging from school readiness and literacy to math, writing, communication enrichment, STEM, homework support, and project assistance. Something Extra Learning also provides ASVAB, SAT, ACT, PSAT, and TSIA2 preparation for teens and adults.

Our Promise

Every learner who walks through our doors deserves patience, encouragement, respect, and an opportunity to grow. Our goal is not simply to help students’ complete assignments, but to help them become more confident learners who recognize what they are capable of achieving.
